Somer Perez, Lead Copywriter
With both feet firmly planted in Manhattan (aside from that 8-month hiatus in rural Spain), Somer's intimacy with hospitality operations makes for incredibly smart, realtime, and witty copywriting. Somer works as Director of Premium Operations at Madison Square Garden, and moonlights as our lead copywriter.
Between hosting the likes of Harry Styles and The Knicks at MSG, she writes long and short form content for all of ABD's clients, including hotels, restaurants, and corporate hospitality clients.
After more than a decade moving from city to city climbing the corporate hospitality ladder, Somer realized that said ladder wasn't her cup of bourbon-spiked tea. So, she took the leap. She quit her job, packed up her daughter, and moved to a small Spanish mountain town. No kidding. There, she began writing her brutally honest memoir about industry life (in Somer's words 'Bourdain was raw, but he wasn't a woman'). She returned to the US and joined us in September of 2021.
It's Somer’s daughter Ryder who inspires her every day. In fact, the pair recently spent a week in Paris last year, sampling fine French cuisine and learning from local cheesemongers. When Somer thinks of her happy place, that trip isn't too far off—she'd B-line for an outdoor trattoria in Rome with a glass of dirty Italian wine and a giant bowl of naughty pasta if she could.
It may sound cheesy (just make sure it's Pecorino Romano aged a minimum of three months), but Somer believes that honesty is the best policy. Nothing good comes from not telling the truth. Maybe it's the New Yorker in her—Somer takes a direct approach, in business and in life.
